The San Francisco Airport Commission is currently offering the following internship programs:
Project Assist
For students currently enrolled in an accredited college degree program. Through this non-paid internship, participants are placed in a variety of offices depending on project needs. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis.
Project Assist Library
A non-paid internship with the San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Library and Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum. The library and museum, dedicated to commercial aviation and San Francisco International Airport's role as the "Gateway to the Pacific," is located in the International Terminal. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis.
Project Assist Museums
A non-paid internship with the San Francisco Airport Museums. In 1999 the San Francisco Airport Museums became the first museum in an airport to receive accreditation from the American Association of Museums. The Airport Museums is now a widely imitated model for museums operating in public arenas. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis.
For high school students:
SFO YouthWorks
For San Francisco high school students (seniors graduating in spring 2010 are not eligible). This program exposes interns to the diverse areas of the airport while gaining valuable work experience. Interested students must apply through San Francisco YouthWorks. To be considered for summer 2010, applications must be received by May 7. For college students:
College Summer Interns Program
A full-time summer internship for college students, this program offers exposure to diverse Airport offices. Participating offices vary each year. Applications are usually issued in the fall. (The filing deadline for the 2010 program has already passed and we are no longer accepting applications for 2010).
Ground Transportation Planning Internship
A paid internship for upper-division or graduate-level transportation planning students. The intern will help develop and support multiple ground transportation programs at one of the country’s most dynamic airports. More SFO passengers use trains, buses, vans, and taxis as ground transportation than almost anywhere else. Term coincides with the fall semester at many schools, starting approximately August 23 and running until approximately December 15. Student Engineering/Architectural/Planner Trainee Program
A summer program for college undergraduates who have completed at least one year in an accredited Engineering/Architectural/Planning program. Applications are usually made available in late fall and must be submitted in February.
Intern Team Leader
This paid, one-year, part-time opportunity is for college students interested in career and youth development. Candidates should be at least undergraduate juniors. Applications are usually issued in spring for an early summer start date.
Management Intern Program
For graduates with a Master's Degree in Aviation, Business, Planning, Public Administration or a related field, this one-year program provides comprehensive exposure to airport operations and can be extremely beneficial in preparing for a career in airport management or business planning for public government and transportation entities. Applications are usually issued in late fall for a late summer start date.
